FLÅM, Overland tour to Gudvangen (a)
Flåm is located in the innermost part of the 200 km long Sognefjord – the longest and most famous of the Norwegian fjords.
Your tour starts with a short walk from the pier to the railway station.
Here you embark the train to start one of the most dramatic train rides in Europe. The Flåm railway is only 20 km long but is a masterpiece of engineering. The valley is very narrow and steep and the train climbs from sea level to 867 meters during a distance of 20 km, crossing back and forth across rivers and through some 20 tunnels.
At Kjosfossen waterfall the train will make as short stop to allow passengers to leave the train for some minutes to take photos of the overwhelming waterfall. At Myrdal station on top of the mountain you will change train and continue the tour on the Bergen Line – crossing the Hardanger Mountain plain on the way to Voss.
In Voss you will have approximately 2 ½ hours free time. You are free to enjoy the lunch box you were given by the ship or go to a local café or restaurant if you wish. Voss also offers good shopping possibilities.
Your buses will leave from the parking next to Park Hotel. The bus tour will first take you through the centre of Voss and to the Tvinde Waterfalls just outside the centre. You will stop for photos at Tvinde before the tour continues towards the Stalheim canyon.
From Stalheim you descend the famous Stalheimskleiva road. The road was built between 1842 and 1849 and is very steep (1:5) The distance is only 1 ½ km but has 13 sharp hair-pin bends. You will pass several water falls on your way down the canyon. The Sivle Waterfalls is one of them – with a free fall of 240 meters.
Then follows a drive along the river down to the pier in Gudvangen where the ship is waiting and the tour terminates.

This tour is subject to a minimum of 30 participants and a maximum of 200 participants.
During the tour a stop will be made for lunch break (packed lunch).

FLÅM, The Flåm Railway (a)
The Flåm Railway (Morning) – approx. 3 ½ hrs.

Flåm is located in the innermost part of the 200 kilometre long Sognefjord, Norway's longest and most majestic fjord.
The tour starts from the pier, which is actually also the railway station. We embark the train to start the most dramatic train ride in Europe.
The Flåm railway is only 20 kilometres long, but is a masterpiece of engineering. The valley is very narrow and steep and the train climbs from sea level to 867 meters during the 20 kilometres journey, crossing back and forth across rivers and through 20 tunnels.
In order to allow the passengers the best possible view of the magnificent scenery the train will proceed slowly or even stop at the finest sections - for instance at the overwhelming Kjosfossen Waterfall, where the passengers may leave the train to take a closer look at the waterfall and maybe take some pictures.
At Vatnahalsen we leave the train and walk the approximately one hundred meters from the station to the Vatnahalsen Mountain Hotel. Coffee or tea and homemade waffles with sour cream and jam have been prepared for us.
There will be time to relax and walk around in the beautiful nature.
After a stop of approximately 50 minutes to one hour, enjoying the refreshments and the fresh mountain air, we board the train again for the return ride to Flåm.

Sporty clothes and comfortable shoes recommended.
There is an approx 150 meters walk over asphalt from pier to the train station; and an optional walk in the nature around Vatnahalsen.

GUDVANGEN, Stalheim Canyon & Tvinde Waterfalls (a)
Stalheim Canyon & Tvinde Waterfalls (Afternoon) – approx. 3 hrs.

Drive through the narrow and impressive Nærøydalen Valley with its many waterfalls before arriving at the fashionable Stalheim Hotel, some 1237 feet above sea level.
We will use the old mountain road - called Stalheimskleivi. The road is very steep (1:5) and was built in 1842-49. There are 13 sharp hairpin bends although the distance is only 1,5 km. There has been an inn at Stalheim since the1640’s.
The old Stalheim Hotel was damaged by fire and the present hotel was built in 1960. The hotel is furnished with a combination of modern Scandinavian furniture and antiques. There is a souvenir shop in the hotel with a wide range of Norwegian souvenirs and handicrafts. There will be time to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and a pecan Danish pastry and to have a walk outside to enjoy the beautiful view of the valley far below.
After having enjoyed the refreshments served at Stalheim you will continue to visit the Tvinde Waterfalls. On the way to Tvinde you will pass the villages of Oppheim and Vinje and also the Oppheim Lake. You will stop to take a look at the Tvindefossen Water Falls. The name Tvinde comes from an old Norwegian word and means double or two. You will understand why when you see the waterfalls as there are actually two waterfalls next to each other.
Return towards Stalheim and when descending from Stalheim towards Gudvangen you once more pass the Stalheimsfossen and the Sivlefossen waterfalls.
The Sivlefossen waterfall has a free fall of 240 meters. The many stone fences we see in front of the farms are to protect the buildings from the air pressure caused by the many snow and stone slides during the winter.
The tour terminates at the pier in Gudvangen where the tenders are waiting.

This tour involves walking at Stalheim on gravel walking paths, some uphill climbing and most walking is optional. There is also some walking on gravel paths from parking to
the Tvinde Waterfalls.

BERGEN, Bryggen & Mount Floyen (a)
Bryggen & Mount Floyen (Morning) – approx. 3 hrs.

Bergen was founded in the year 1070. Up to the 1830’s the city was the largest in the country and a centre for commerce and shipping.
For several centuries the Hanseatic Merchants had one of their four major overseas trading offices in Bergen - The German office at Bryggen.
We start the tour with a drive along the German pier - Bryggen with the characteristic wooden buildings with pointed gables facing the harbour. We make a stop and walk with our guide through the alleyways.
The promenade gives an intimate picture of what it was like to live in the town in the Middle Ages. These buildings are now on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. Today Bryggen is a fascinating honeycomb of active workshops, where painters, weavers and craftsmen produce fine-quality and original items. Our guided walk ends at the Fish and Flower Market where we will have a few minutes to have a look around.
Thereafter we continue the tour of the city, going by coach through suburban areas to see how the people of Bergen live today.
We will finish the tour of Bergen with a ride up to Mount Fløien. The funicular will take us safely up to 320 meters above sea level. The ride takes 5 minutes each way. From the top there is a magnificent view of Bergen and the surroundings. After a short stop we will return to the centre by funicular, where the coach is waiting to take us back to the pier.

We recommend the use of comfortable walking shoes as this tour involves approx. 30 minutes walk at Bryggen and also some walking at the Fish and Flower Market.

BERGEN, Troldhaugen & Fantoft (a)
Troldhaugen & Fantoft (Afternoon) – approx. 3 ½ hrs.

From the quayside, we drive through the busy harbour area passing the German Pier ‘Bryggen’ with its old wooden warehouses from the Hanseatic period, and leaving the city centre, continue through the countryside to Troldhaugen, for twenty-two years the home of Edvard Grieg, Norway’s most famous composer. Situated by the peaceful Lake Nordås, it has often been called a ‘Little Eden for Music Lovers’. The house, which has remained unchanged, contains actual furnishings and memorabilia of the composer. Both he and his wife Nina are buried in a hillside grave overlooking the fjord.
Our next stop is at the Fantoft Stave Church. The old Stave Church, built in 1150 and moved to Fantoft in 1883, was burned down in 1992. The church has now been rebuilt just as it was before the fire, and Viking shipbuilding techniques are evident in the way the roof is built, and in the carvings of serpents and dragons as ornaments.
On our return, we shall make a stop at the famous Fish and Flower Market close to the harbour, where you may choose to leave the tour for shopping, and then have a pleasant fifteen-minute walk back to the ship.

There is a 10-minute walk from the parking lot at Troldhaugen to the museum (flat) and a 5-minute walk to Fantoft Stave Church (hilly). Both places on gravel walking paths.

HELLESYLT, Overland Tour to Geiranger (a)
Overland Tour to Geiranger (Full day with packed lunch) – approx. 7 hrs.

The Geirangerfjord is considered by many to be one of the world’s most beautiful, and when you see it, you will understand why it has been visited by cruise ships for more than 100 years.
The tour starts by coach from the village of Hellesylt - the village that provided Henrik Ibsen with the setting for one of his principal dramas, ‘Brand’.
The road goes through farmland, typical of western Norway, and in between towering mountains and lakes to Lake Hornindalsvatnet, well stocked with trout and the deepest lake in Europe at over 514 meters.
Continuing along the lakeside towards the Nordfjord and across to the village of Stryn, we follow the River Stryn up the valley. The Stryn is one of the best salmon rivers in Norway – the biggest salmon ever caught in the Stryn river weighed 29 kilos.
We continue our scenic drive alongside the emerald green Lake Stryn, taking its colour from the melted ice from the Jostedalen Glacier which can be glimpsed in the distance, and then start climbing up the narrow valley to the Stryn Mountains. The road is a masterpiece of engineering, built for horse-drawn vehicles and opened in 1895.
We then drive across the mountain plateau with the well known summer skiing centre of Tystigen and thereafter heading for Mount Dalsnibba.
The coach climbs up the winding mountain road that offers an ever-changing kaleidoscope of mountain farms, waterfalls, lakes and streams. From Lake Djupvatn you will continue on the hairpin road to the summit of Mount Dalsnibba - from where you have a spectacular view of the Geirangerfjord far below and the magnificent mountain peaks. From the summit, 1500 meters above sea level, you will drive carefully down the same road to Djupvasshytta Mountain Lodge. There will be time for a stroll down to the lake.
From the Flydal Gorge there is another stupendous view - the classical Geiranger motif - before we arrive back at the quayside in the village of Geiranger.

GEIRANGER, Mount Dalsnibba (a)
Mount Dalsnibba (Afternoon) – approx. 3 hrs.

The Geirangerfjord is without doubt the most beautiful of all Norwegian fjords. Majestic mountains, impressive glaciers and cascading waterfalls give this fjord its unique character.
The tour starts from the small village of Geiranger, which is one of the most well known tourist resorts in Norway.
The coach climbs up the winding mountain road, which offers an ever-changing kaleidoscope of mountain farms, waterfalls, lakes and streams, to Lake Djupvatn, and continues round hairpins to the summit of Mount Dalsnibba, 1.500 metres above sea level. From this vantage point we will have a spectacular view of Geirangerfjord far below and the magnificent mountain peaks all around.
On the way down to Geiranger, we stop at the Flydal viewpoint to take pictures of the classical Geiranger motif of the fjord, with our own cruise ship anchored in the bay. The tour ends back at the pier in Geiranger.

In case that the Dalsnibba road is closed due to snow, the tour will be operated by Eagle road.

NORDFJORDEID, Panorama overland tour to Olden by Briksdal Glaciar (a)
Panorama overland tour to Olden by Briksdal Glaciar (Long Morning) – approx. 6 hrs.

After a short sightseeing through the charming old street of Nordfjordeid, we continue on the northern banks of Nordfjord, which offers a selection of cultural sights, beautiful nature, and panoramic viewpoints.
From Nos we have a stunning view of Nordfjord and its surrounding mountains.
The road winds through the beautiful small settlements of Randabygda, Fjelli and Blakset, before we reach the vivid village of Stryn.
From here we continue to Olden, and through the beautiful Olden valley with majestic mountains, waterfalls and the green Olden Lake.
From Briksdalsbre Inn there is 45 min. walk to the Briksdal Glacier, which is a magnificent sight of blue ice making it’s way down the mountain. The Briksdal Glacier is an arm of Jostedal Glacier, largest glacier on the European mainland. Back at the inn, we enjoy coffee and delicious home made pastries, before the busses return back to the ship in Olden.

This tour is subject to a minimum of 30 participants and a maximum of 300 participants.
Passengers who want to rent a “Troll-car” to go to the glacier may do so – each passenger pay individually to the driver of the car.

OLDEN, Jostedalsparken National Park Centre (a)
Jostedalsparken National Park Centre (Afternoon) – approx. 2 ½ hrs.

The southernmost of the three short branches of the Nordfjord terminates at Olden. From Olden a lovely valley, Oldedalen strikes due south for some 20 kilometres between slopes rising sharply to more than 1700 metres to the edge of the Jostedalsbre Glacier.
The turbulent rivers, which feeds the lakes and forms magnificent water falls, comes from the glacier tongues of the Jostedalsbre Glacier. The fertile soil supports many fine old farms in the lower and upper valleys. High above the farms you will see several tiny summer pastures.
You will start your tour by driving along the shores of the beautiful Nordfjord. Drive through districts well known for extensive fruit farming and arrive at the village of Stryn which is the administrative centre of this rugged area.
Visit the Jostedalen National Park Center, which is located in the Stryn Valley. The centre was opened in 1993. It has a natural science exhibition with models of the glaciers, and a botanical garden with wild flowers from the area. There are good toilet facilities, a souvenir shop and a nice cafeteria. A wonderful film about the Jostedal Glacier will be shown in the cinema. The focus is on presenting the diversity and the grandness of the area. Wide-screen format (16:9), sound and dynamism will give you an un-easy feeling in your stomach as you are taken off-guard by avalanches. The aim is to draw you into the film itself; giving you a lasting experience that you will remember longer than the facts and knowledge you are given.
