DAPHNE FAR EAST MALAYSIA & THAILAND - PENANG, Penang Grand Tour
A – Penang Grand Tour (Full day with lunch) – approx. 7 hrs.
A comprehensive tour of the island. Start the day by experiencing an exhilarating ride on
Penang’s king of the road – the Trishaw – through the streets of the city. Then by coach, drive to
the foothills to explore the sprawling Kek Lok Si Temple. View the tortoise sanctuary, the Hall of
Wisdom, the seven-tiered Pagoda and the image of Kuan Yin – the Goddess of Mercy. Next
along the waterfront in Georgetown city, visit the Chew Jetty, an early Chinese settlement were
houses are built on stilts jutting out towards the sea. Observe the daily lifestyles of the residents
living in the vicinity.
This will follow with an international buffet lunch at a leading hotel in the city (two drinks incl.:
mineral water or fruit juice or soft drink and tea or coffee) before driving to the seaside district of
Telok Bahang – the Bay of Reflected Heat, to visit the Butterfly Farm.
A sanctuary for various species of rare and exotic butterflies, the farm is complete with a
hatchery and a “Preserved Butterflies of the World” museum. Finally visit the Thai Temple of Wat
Chayamangkalaram, which houses the 108-foot long figure of the reclining Buddha and the
adjacent Burmese Dharmikarama Temple before your return to the pier.

Trace the history and cultural heritage of Gerogetown, declared a UNESCO World Heritage site
in 2008. View Fort Cornwallis (photo stop), the site where Capt. Francis Light first landed.
Next explore on foot with guide the ‘road of harmony’, to view various places of worship – the
Anglican St. George’s Church, the Chinese Goddess of Mercy Temple, the Kapitan Keling
Mosque and the Hindu Sri Mariamman Temple en route to the majestic and ornate Khoo Clan
Ancestral House. There you will enjoy one mineral water or one soft drink.
At the suburbs of the city, visit the Thai Temple of Wat Chayamangkalaram, which houses the

C – Penang Island Overview (Morning) – approx. 4 ¼ hrs.
Explore the island of Penang… Drive along the scenic north coastline beaches of Batu Ferringhi
and Telok Bahang, en route to a handicraft factory for demonstration of Malaysian batik printing.
Along the hilly west coast, view terraced fruit orchards and spice estates of cloves and nutmegs.
Stop at a farmer’s fruit stall, where you will enjoy one mineral water or one soft drink.
Next travel pass tranquil and laid back Malay ‘kampongs’ (villages) and visit the renowned
Temple of the Azure Cloud, better known as the Snake Temple. Built in 1850, the temple earned
its name from the Pit Vipers that adorn the altars. Finally, continue drive pass the longest bridge
in South-east Asia, returning to pier through the suburbs of Georgetown city.

A – Phang Nga (Full day with buffet lunch) – approx. 8 ½ hrs.
This full-day tour offers the opportunity to discover one of Thailand's most spectacular sceneries.
The seascape of Phang Nga Bay is nothing short of magical. Begin your day with the drive to
the north of the island, where you will cross to the mainland via the Thep Krasettree Causeway
(the new causeway parallel to the old Sarasin Causeway).
At the Rubber Plantation watch a demonstration of “rubber-tapping” where the product is
extracted from rubber trees in its natural form. From there is processed into the many forms we
use on a daily basis. While tourism is Phuket’s primary source of income, the rubber industry is a
close second largest income earner.
Upon arrival at Phang Nga Bay you will switch to a motorboat and begin an unforgettable cruise
through the surrealist landscape of limestone stacks. Their dramatic colouring of ochre and
amber hues contrasts vividly with the startling blue of the water. The awesome scenery of Phang
Nga Bay is well worth the trip. While exploring this wondrous region, distinct points of interest
stand out.
Popularly known as James Bond Island, it was here where the filming of the last scenes of “The
Man with the Golden Gun” took place. The boat will approach to the island for photo taking.
You will also have a chance to visit Koh Panyi, a water village where more than 200 houses are
built on stilts with attached wooden walkways.
Enjoy a late lunch in a setting overlooking the mangrove forest and towering hills. The buffet
lunch (drinks incl.: one soft drink or local beer and tea or coffee) features a selection of Thai
cuisine.
After lunch you will rejoin your coach and begin the drive back to Phuket Island, en route
enjoying views of the countryside and small settlements.
Before returning to the ship, a stop for shopping will be made at the souvenir centre for the
handicrafts, cultured pearl, precious stones, etc.

This half-day tour is designed to provide an essential overview of Phuket. Once the secret
holiday hideaway for wealthy Thais, the island has become a star attraction for travellers from
around the world. A scenic drive will show you Phuket’s most interesting sights, lush tropical
vegetation and shimmering white beaches.
Visit a Cashew Nut Factory. Cashew nut tree is originated in the rain forest. In 1901, the former
governor general of Phuket brought the seeds of cashew nut into the Southern territory of Siam
Kingdom. Since then, this crop had widely cultivated and developed to thrive throughout the
Kingdom. There, you will watch a process of cashew nut products, such as skilled workers

cracking nutshells to create a mouth watering variety of snacks and sweets. Taste the various
types of snacks and sweet made on the premises.
You will have a brief orientation and a panoramic view from Rang Hill. A small hill located
northeast of the town, offering a fascinating view of Phuket City. Inside the park there are a
fitness park, restaurants and a rest area. The statue of the Governor of Phuket between 1890
and 1909 is also situated here.
Located 3.5 miles south of Phuket town is Wat Chalong Monastery. This impressive temple is
Phuket’s largest and most sacred. It is best known for its gold leaf encrusted statues of three
former abbots. One of them, Luang Por Chem, was especially respected for his medical skills
and magical powers, which he successfully used when Phuket was attacked by army of Chinese
at the turn of the century.
Take a scenic drive along the beach road for a view of Phuket’s main beaches and their resort
hotels, Karon and Patong Beaches. Before returning to the ship, a stop for shopping will be
made at the souvenir centre for handicrafts, cultured pearl, precious stones, etc.

Come face-to-face with a unique selection of Phuket's diverse sightseeing attractions. The first
part of your tour will drive you through the countryside of Thailand.
At the Elephant Camp, you will have a great opportunity to delight adventurous activities; firstly,
you will enjoy the talented baby elephant show and afterwards take an elephant ride. After
doubling up with a partner, you will amble for approximately 30 minutes through tropical forest
and plantation land on this somewhat unorthodox mode of transportation. Coconut plantation is
one of the most important activities in the southern Thailand; monkey has been trained to be
coconut picker. You will then have an opportunity to enjoy the monkey show. Before departing
from the camp, rubber tapping will be demonstrated to show how the rubber sheet is made.
After a visit to the elephant camp, a short stop for shopping will be made at the souvenir centre

Explore Langkawi’s intriguing places of legends and folklore… Visit the Mahsuri’s Mausoleum to
learn about the famous curse on the island. In the vicinity, visit a replica of a traditional Kedah
Malay House built without the use of nails. The tour continues with a drive to the scenic white

An energetic tour away from history and culture.
You will depart by motor boat from the pier – first a trek to the fresh water lake at Pulau Dayang
Bunting, the Island of the Pregnant Maiden. Nestled amidst limestone cliff and separated from
the sea by a thin ridge of limestone, legend claims that the lake water bestows fertility.
Accessible from shore by 150 metres of mild hill climbing, refresh by taking a dip in the lake.
Next enjoy a swim in the sea at the secluded beach of Pulau Beras Basah - the Wet Rice Island.

Experience two of Langkawi’s attractions - the Langkawi Cable Car & Underwater World. Drop
into the Oriental Village for some duty-free shopping before riding on the cable car 708 metres
above sea level up Gunung Mat Cincang, for a panoramic view of Langkawi’s many islands.
Next come face to face with Giant Groupers, Sharks, Moray Eels & other schools of fishes in
Malaysia’s largest aquarium. Here you will also see 3 ecosystems – the Tropical Rainforest, the
Temperate & Sub-Antarctic World.

A – Faces of Kuala Lumpur (Full day with lunch) – approx. 7 hrs.
Founded in the mid-nineteenth century, Kuala Lumpur, or KL as it's popularly known, is the
youngest Southeast Asian capital and the most economically successful after Singapore – and
it's still growing: building sites abound and the city is awash with stunning examples of modern
architecture, not least the famous Petronas Towers.
After one hour drive (71 km) you will arrive to Kuala Lumpur. First, a photo stop will be made at
King’s Palace. It is a palace and an official residence of the Yang Di Pertuan Agung and the
Raja Permaisuri Agung (the King and Queen) of Malaysia. Then you will visit the National
Museum. The site of the Muzium Negara – on a hill facing Jalan Travers – was originally the site
of the old Selangor Museum which was opened in 1906.
From there, you will stop at the National Monument. View the 15.5m National Monument,

the Malaysian Armed Forces holding the national flag. Then you will proceed to the
Independence Square, formerly known as the Selangor Turf Club, the scene of the annual
celebration of independence - was once the focal point and cricket green (incl. football, hockey,
tennis, rugby and other matches) of the British colonial presence in Malaysia. Appropriately
enough, it was here, in front of the impressive and often photographed Sultan Abdul Samad
Building, with its unique Moorish architecture, Malaysia celebrated its Independence Day in
1947. Before proceeding for lunch, photo stop at Petronas Twin Tower, 88 stories high, the
second tallest building in the world (1, 483 feet).
After lunch (drinks incl.: mineral water and 1 glass of either local draft beer or juice or soft drink
and tea or coffee), depart to Jame Mosque (pass by) from the bridge.
The Jame Mosque is situated at the confluence of the Gombak and Klang rivers, where the early
settlement of Kuala Lumpur began. It is the oldest mosque in Kuala Lumpur and was built by A.
B. Hubback in 1909. It features graceful arches and domes, reminiscent of the Moorish era.
Before starting your way back to the ship (approx. 1hour drive), you will continue walking to the
Central Market or CM, where you will find local crafts and souvenirs.

More than any other spot in the country, Kuala Lumpur, or "KL" as it is commonly known, is the
focal point of new Malaysia. The city's bustling streets, its shining, modern office towers, and its
cosmopolitan air project an unbounded spirit of progress and symbolize Malaysia's unhesitating

leap into the future. To some, this spirit seems to have been gained at the loss of ancient cultural
traditions, but in many ways KL marks the continuation rather than the loss of Malaysia's rich
past.
This excursion has been planned not only for those who have already visited KL and want to
rediscover the town on their own, but also for those who would like to discover the hidden
beauties on their own.
Departure from Port Klang with a guide who will give you all general information necessary to
move in a foreign town and to discover such a wonderful city.
Arrival in KL after about 1 hour drive (71 km). The drop-off will be at Berjaya Times Square
Shopping Complex located in the heart of KL’s central business district. From here you will
follow your own program to explore the city. In the late afternoon you will meet the guide and
drive back to Port Klang.

C – Scenic Kuala Lumpur (Morning) – approx. 5 hrs.
From Port Klang, you will follow the modern highway towards Kuala Lumpur (71 km – approx. 1
hour drive).
Kuala Lumpur will fascinate you with her beauty and charm with a skyline that blends the old and
the new. On the tour, we will highlight to you the most nostalgic attractions, a unique
architectural heritage and landmarks for visitors to admire.
You will pass by the National Museum, the Parliament House, the Lake garden / bird park, the
KL orchid garden, the National Mosque, the railway station, the Chinatown and the golden
triangle.
Photo stops will be made at King’s Palace (Istana Negara) which is the official residence of His
Majesty, the Yang di Pertuan Agong, and the King of Malaysia; at the National Monument,
designed by the famous sculptor, Felix De Weldon. This 15.54m high bronze monument was
constructed in 1966; at the Independence Square, a 100 metre-high flagpole marks the spot
where the Malayan Flag was hoisted on August 31, 1957 signifying the independence of the
country from British rule and at the Petronas Twin Towers which are currently the world’s tallest
two freestanding towers. The 88 storey Petronas Twin Towers soars to a dizzying height of
452m above the city skyline. This gleaming architectural delight inspired by the Five Pillars of
Islam is the centrepiece of the ultra-modern Kuala Lumpur city centre.
Before returning to the ship, a visit stop will be made at Batik demo centre and chocolate
boutique.

This tour is recommended for handicapped and elderly persons as there almost no walking is involved.
